Etiquette in the avatar community is really nothing more than a way to be friendly and to avoid stepping on other people's virtual toes. Since we have several players that were not involved in the original game, or any of its descendants, I will try and relay some "DO's and DONT'S" for the betterment of the entire game. Please understand, I am not picking on or trying to pick a fight with anyone. If this is your first foray into the world of Avatar-- please don't get offended.
DO:
Announce your entrance into the game. A simple greeting sent via e message lets others know that you are preparing to play.
Look to see if other players are in, and might be likely to be on the level you intend to run.
Ask those players where they are running. This avoids over crowding one particular level or area.
Pick a free area to begin your gaming.
If you need a particular quest and this involves you competing with another player, inform him/her. Players don't mind running through some empty rooms if they know you are questing. Additionally, if you tell them what you are looking for, they will notify you if and when they find it.
If you call out for a S/R (save and report) on a particular mob, please remember to report it gotten. It is frustrating for players to take the time to S/R a monster that you called out, when you got it 5 minutes ago.
Report that you are leaving an area if you have claimed it. Or if you are leaving the game when someone else has asked you which area you are running. This lets them know the area you claimed is now free for the taking. This doesn't mean reporting when you return to city-- it means if you are moving from the claimed area and don't intend to go back to that same area again for a while, or at all.
DON'T:
Claim multiple areas when someone asks what is in use. "I am running 13/14/15" would not be a cool thing to reply.
Invade someone's claimed area without at least a heads up.
Open a box when you joined someone else's combat. IE you enter a room and see someone else engaged in combat. You should leave the room, but if you clear the encounter, the box belongs to the previous occupants of the room.
Repeatedly beg for money/stats/items. If you are new, asking once is okay. Asking over and over is not.
Continue to have your conversation with another player via E message, when someone has asked you to take it private.
Ignore other players, just because you feel like being antisocial.
